Native to humid lowland areas of Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, this fruit-bearing tree grows to 18 meters tall in natural forests but is more typically 10 to 12 meters tall in a garden or landscape setting. It develops a densely branched and foliaged dome- to pyramidal shaped crown that casts a deep shade.
Use: The fruit are valued as a fresh fruit in its native range. The pulp is translucent with a sweet, sub-acid flavour and clings to a large seed.
Climate: Grows naturally in moderately humid to very humid tropical lowland climates, generally in areas with average annual low temperatures of 19 to 24 °C, average annual high temperatures of 28 to 33 °C and annual rainfall of 1700 to 3500 mm, with no dry months.
